Poles Help Pope Celebrate His Name Day
Today is the feast of St. Charles Borromeo, and John Paul II's baptismal name is Karol Wojtyla - and of course, Karol is Polish for "Charles." MY name day is November 16 - St. Margaret of Scotland, Queen. (Click to read her story). This kind of lovely story about her is why I don't mind my name even if it WAS originally meant to be a middle name. Hmm, November 16, it's coming up pretty soon! LOL in Europe they get presents on their name day ... Don't worry, I'm not expecting anything! ;)
PS Margaret is the lady in the black-and-white drawing on the bottom right, in case you were wondering who that was. Yah! I gotta have a picture of my patron saint on my blog, ya know :)

ReplyDeleteno, this is the pope. i'm still alive...barely
ReplyDeleteyou jerks ;)
ReplyDeleteHmmm you might try this index: http://www.catholiconline.com/saints/stindex.php I don't see a St. Leslie there :( But actually, a lot of people use their middle name or, even more common, their Confirmation name.
ReplyDeleteThere are about 10 different Saint Margarets, I wasn't named after one specifically, so I vaguely remember choosing Margaret of Scotland as my patroness in the fourth grade ...
You could also ask your parents what saint you were baptized for. Usually there has to be saint's name in there somewhere. When my litle brother Arthur was getting ready to be born, the priest reassured them that Heaven was crawling with St. Arthurs. Not SO! Not ONE! Luckily, his middle name was Oliver and there happened to be a Saint Oliver - St. Oliver Plunkett. Artie will just have to be the first Saint Arthur. And you'll have to be the first Saint Leslie! ;)
Yah! St. Ann(e) was Mary's mother, which makes her Jesus's grandmother. There are lots of other Annes, like St Anne Line and St. Anna the Prophetess (Luke's Gospel). Catherine of Alexandria is way cool, as is most any saint from Egypt. Sooo, that means, depending on which you choose, your name day is either July 26 (Mary's mother) or November 25 (Catherine). Oooo, that' ones coming up right after mine! ;)
