Now that you mention it

Since we've all been talking about Confession (ha ha ha) here's a neato little poem from The New Oxford Book of English Verse

A Lover's Confession

by Charles of Orleans {?1394-1465}

My ghostly father, I me confess,
First to God and then to you,
That at a window - wot ye how?
I stole a kiss of great sweetness,
Which done was out avisedness;
But it is done, not undone, now.
My ghostly father, I me confess,
First to God and then to you.
But I restore it shall doubtless
Again, if so be that I mow;
And that to God I make avow,
And else I ask forgiveness.
My ghostly father, I me confess,
First to God and then to you,
That at a window - wot ye how?
I stole a kiss of great sweetness.

N.B. - "out avisedness" = without thought. And the ghostly father is the priest.
