Nose to the grindstone

Guess who got a job at the dining hall today?

That's right. I wonder if this will be one of those jobs I screw up, or one of those jobs I screw up, but don't get found out ;)

Seriously, though, I am a little nervous, but not too much. I just applied today, and I start tomorrow! I am working as a Grab n' Go server on Monday from 7 to 10 pm, as a Dining Room janitor on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 to 8, and as a salad bar attendant from 11 to 1 on Saturday.

Saturday used to be my one day to sleep in, alas. However, the only other available hours were evening shifts, and I wanted to have at least one night where I could do something with my friends if I wanted to. I bet my Athens pals will find the Grab n' Go part of my job highly amusing, since I was obsessed with the Grab n' Go chicken last year :)

It's about 8 hours a week, and it's just until the end of the quarter, which is about four weeks away ... So if it stinks, I just have to plow through it!

I got some good news this week. I got an A on my journalism history test, which I was scared silly about, and I got an A on my query letter for that feature story I'm doing on the State Street cemetery. My professor was very gung-ho about the story idea, so I was really pleased. I guess we have the same taste.

I took a Non-Western history exam today, and I am not too sure about that one. The multiple choice wasn't so bad, but the chronology and geography parts were very ehhh. The essay also gave me some trouble; however, I ended up writing a whole lot, so ... Maybe the professor will give me a break. Quality vs. Quantity, ha!

In other news, my priest sent me an e-mail with some information about a "live-in" experience available at a few monasteries over winter break. I recognized a few of the names - Poor Clares in Cleveland, Ohio, for instance. Maybe I'll think about giving that a go ...
