A couple of anniversaries

I somehow overlooked:

The anniversary of the founding of the Eternal City, Rome:

and the 500th anniversary of the laying of the first stone of the current version of St. Peter's Basilica (the remains of an older church - Old St. Peter's - lie below the current Basilica:

Pope Benedict XVI celebrated the 500th anniversary of the laying of the first stone of the current St. Peter's Basilica Monday, April 17, 2006, saying he hoped it would awaken Catholics' desire to be 'living cornerstones'' of the church's growth. He noted that on April 18, 1506, Pope Julius II laid the first stone of the new basilica, 'which the entire world admires for the powerful harmony of its forms.'' (AP Photo/Luca Bruno)

Buon compleanno, Roma! Buon compleanno, St. Pete's!
