Eucharistic Adoration
On Carmel’s peak Elijah stayed
To face the earthquake unafraid.
’Gainst fire and hurricane, the same.
But when from holy silence came
The still, small whisper to that place,
He wrapped his mantle round his face.
So seraphim, who meet the gaze
Of the Almighty whom they praise,
Cover their eyes in holy dread
At God’s sweet whisper in the Bread.
