Big day

Papa announced today that he is creating 15 more cardinals. Among the big names were:

Archbishop Sean O'Malley, of the See of Boston (brought in to clean up after Cardinal Law)

Archbishop Carlo Caffarra of the See of Bologna (who succeeds Cardinal Biffi)

and Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz of Krakow (John Paul II's private secretary gets a richly-deserved reward for his decades of selfless service)

Also elevated to the rank of Cardinal were Archbishop William Levada, formerly of San Francisco, who has replaced Benedict as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and Bishop Joseph Zen of Hong Kong, a strong critic of China's repressive regime.

Congratulations to the new cardinals! May they long wear the red!
