Mrs. Blair goes to Rome

The wife of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Cherie Blair (R), meets Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican April 28, 2006. Blair, who is Catholic, attended a meeting on solidarity with youth by the Vatican's Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences as an 'outside expert' and was later received by the Pope. Saw this whilst reading American Papist (do yourself a favor and make it a part of your daily blog diet). There's always been rumors that Mr. Blair is on the cusp of converting to his wife's Faith, stopped only by those pesky archaic anti-Catholic laws which forbid a Catholic from serving as PM of England. Or something to that effect.

Unfortunately, I believe Mrs. Blair has always clearly been in the pro-abortion camp. In which case, I'm not sure why she was invited to the meeting on the youth. Wouldn't it be more apt to invite someone who has an appreciation for the contraception-and-abortion-induced plummeting demographics for young people in Europe? If things get to a certain point, there won't be any more young people to having meetings for!

It has been noticed that she wore white to her meeting with Papa, which is a protocol no-no; white is traditionally reserved for Catholic Queens. However, I have also heard that Papa requested the meeting at the last moment and that perhaps that is the reason for the gaffe. In any case, that's part of it's a non-story, except for people who suffer from... Ahem... Attacks of "the petty problem" as they call it...
