I'm sure everyone has heard about poor Barbaro, the Triple Crown hopeful who badly injured his leg only moments after starting the Preakness. I didn't see it live, and I'm glad I didn't. What a horrific thing for the jockey and the spectators in the stands. I hope they didn't replay it on live TV; I'm sure most of the audience would be made sick.
And there was some question of whether the poor horse would survive the injury. Certainly his career is over; however, I understand that it's quite usual for horses with his kind of injury to die. According to this story from the AP, his surgery was successful. He will probably remain at the center for quite a while.
Get well, Barbaro :)
